FYI - Scuba Factoids

Hafa Adai! Well, I just logged my 250th dive so I thought I would share a few factoids from by homemade logbook (Excel). Theres is probably only a handful of people who will find this interesting, so I won't feel bad if you click that "X" in the upper right corner now!! Ha!!

Here we go:

1. ) I have spent 10 Days, 21 Hours & 44 Minutes Underwater... that sounds like a lot until you think about drivers who spend 1 hour on the road to work, one hour back home, each day, 5 days a week. It would only take them 6 months to amass that much time wasted in traffic...I'd rather be diving! It only takes me 4 minutes to get to work. He he he!!

2.) We bought our gear, and so if I rented from myself it would only cost $9.51 / Dive. Better than the $20-30 or so per dive.

3.) Longest Dive: 2 hours 11 mintues
Deepest Dive 160 ft
Most PSI in my Tank, 3800 (3000 is normal)
Lost PSI to surface with, 60 (500 is suggested...had to get the picture)
How much air do I breath 40.51 psi/minutes...
Longest time at a Deco Stop, 15 minutes

4.) Saddest Dive:
August 13, 2006 - It broke our string of 14 Dives with a new nudibranch
Scaries Dive September 16, 2006 - My dive bro Eric ran our of air....in a tunnel...at night! Memories!!
Funniest Dive: Scaring Shoshanna by making her think there were Sharks behind her in Chuuk (There were school of sharks around us!! Ok maybe it was only funny to me ;-)
Most Relaxing Dive: Tulamben, Bali
Most Stressful Dive: Dropping into Blue Holes Palau with the Waves, Current with a stressed out wife. She's much better now!!!
Best Dive on Guam - Blue Hole

There you have a few random facts that will surely get you through your next day!

Hafa Adai

Not much happened this weekend. The festivities of last week are finally over so we just rested up a bit. I looks like Doug Ng passed is Guam Board so hopefully we'll have him out here in the near future. Even though were in the rainy season we had a little time to dive on Sunday. Nothing too crazy out there but I did get a nice picture of a Wrasse on my safety stop. Here he is...he makes a nice backdrop on the computer!!

Dinner with the Dentists

Hello Everyone,

Last weekend we had all the dentists and perspective dentists over to our place for some tortilla soup. Good times were had by all. Hopefully Doug and Grace will be heading out to join use early next year. We'll have to see how the whole board process goes.

Bonus Post

Man, I thought everyone would like this picture. Ouch! Look closely where that horn goes... up the leg, Ahhh!!!!! The second picture shows a bull getting two brothers at the same time...right up the wazooooo. It reminds me of running with the bulls in Segunto, Spain. Except these one don't have fire on their horns...their just sharp!!

Sho is Away & Chad will Play...or destroy things!!!

Well the grand destruction of the old bathroom has begun. Thanks to Gordon who brought some fun tools. We jack hammered our way through cement, wire and the occasional steel rebar. Anyway, were on the way to making a better world for everyone!!

Golfing at Mangilao

This Friday Eric took me golfing as a thanks for making the Lembeh Diving DVD. He took me to one of the nicer golf courses on the island, Mangilao. It's situated on the east coast and we had been talking about playing if for a while. We were definitely not disappointed. The fairways were really nice and the greens rolled true. Even though we weren't always hitting from either of those two options... :-) Anyway, here is a quick video of our day. Thanks again Eric.

Health Fair and New Lights

Last sunday the Agat church had a health fair that went off quite well. We had around 100 people show up to get flu shots, BP, Cholesterol, Eye & Dental Checks. They even got a free and healthful treat when they were done. It seemed that many of them were hoping for extractions on the spot...Being the only dentist that wouldn't have lasted long. Then we came home and I put up our new fixture in the vanity area. The solid cement makes placing wire a little tricky hear. A nice diamond grinder does the trick though. Combined with the newly framed mirror it looks quite nice. Now for the main project...the master bath! Enjoy the photos.

Momorial Weekend in Truk Lagoon (Chuuk)

Shoshanna and I headed of last Friday morning to spend our long weekend in Chuuk diving the famous Japanese ship wrecks. For those who don't know, much of the Japaneses fleet used Truk as one of their main navel bases. The U.S. sent a bunch of carrier based planes to bomb the ships in the lagoon. Unfortunately, most of the large battleships & destroyers were tipped off when they saw a U.S. scout plane the day before and left. Even though their is a impressive display of ships throughout the lagoon. We dove the Fujikawa, Heian Maru, Shinkoko & Yamgiri. Almost all the ship had a impressive display of soft corals and sponges covering them. Along with the sea life there were many artifacts from the ships themselves. Saki bottle were everywhere, I guess they liked to party!! There was also china, planes, bombs, massive 14-18 inch battleship shells, and even a skull blown into the bulkhead from a huge explosion. Besides the 18 or so gray reef sharks that started surrounding us, we had a pretty relaxing weekend. It was a fun but quick weekend that was quite comfortably spent at the Blue Lagoon. I hope you all had a great weekend too. Take care and don't forget the fallen on Memorial Day!!!

Bali, Sulawesi & Muck Diving

Hello Everybody,

It's been a while since our last blog...thats because we were diving in the great Lembeh Straight, Indonesia. We've been back about a week now but editing all the pictures took me a while to get ready. I'll include a few of the best shots but everybody is expecting a little video so maybe I'll post part of that later. If you want a nice little sideshow just follow this link to the Piersons Blogspot...they did such a good job you should watch it!!

The Trip...the quick explanation is we dove our brains out, In 5 days we did about 17 Dives and saw the craziest critters ever. Now back to the beginning. We started off by flying to Bali where we stayed the night. The next day took us to Makassar on Garuda Airlines...yes thats the one that crashed last month. Needless to say our flight was delayed 1-2,4 hours at which point we were told a new plane was coming. When it arrived we were a little worried when the technition brought out a ladder and proceeded to demonstrate how the Baro Probes (Pointy things on the front of a plane) was moving around freely. That didn't instill a lot of confidence in the airline which soon canceled the flight. The next day we were up early and on the way to Lembeh without incidence. We started diving right after we got there. We stayed at Nomad Adventure Divers (NADS:) They treated us great even after their Gererator caught fire and we didn't have any tanks for diving. In reality they worked their butts off for us.

The diving was amazing! Yes we had great soft corals, sponges and crinoids, but the main attraction was the Muck!!! Thats right, some of the craziest animals were found of the sandy, and sometimes polluted beaches in the straight. The critters ranged from Hairy Frogfish and Mimic Octopus to Flamboyant Cuttlefish and colorful nudibranchs. Look at the size of this Pigmy Seahorse...thats my finger next to him. Needless to say we had a great time getting waterlogged.

After Lembeh we had to say goodbye to the Fly's who needed to return home to work. Thus the Piersons and us decided to stay the weekend in Bali. Especially since the package included our ticket, hotel and breakfast and was less than an airplane ticket alone! Nice!!! We enjoyed a nice weekend at the Kuta Lagoon resort. We went up to see the lake district with sunset at Tanah Lot Temple. We also fit in a shopping trip to Ubud and the Monkey Forest. Ken...don't harass the monkeys ;-). In the end we enjoyed some wonderful food and found some great art to decorate our homes. Anyway, I think that covers everything. Here are a few pictures to fill in the blank spots. We hope you are all doing great!! Drop us a line if you have a moment. Take care!!!!

Well, I'll make this short. We had a very very nice day out on the ocean....until I lost my diffuser which was custom made...by me!!! Lucky I made two ;-) But I really liked that one. Didn't quite make it back in time to pick cucumbers this week. Maybe Tuesday!! Here is a Nudibranch Picture for you fanatics.

Remodel Update #3

We changed out the nice Purplish-Pink Blind for Ivory a while back. Doesn't sound like a huge job but it made the rooms look a lot nicer. There is also a picture of the new yellow guestroom. Hopefully we can get a nice painting to match in Bali next week. We also had the Powers over last Friday and here is a picture of the crazy clan.

Cucumbers & Diving

Happy Easter Everybody!! Today we got up late and decided to go get wet. Didn't see much super exciting but it was a beautiful day to be out in the water. I was surprised to see some new soft coral growing at one of our dive sites. I also got a decent picture of a Thurdilia Nudibranch for those of you who enjoy them. Afterwards we decided to go and help pick Cucumbers at the Jimenos house. Something happened to our churches water line and we ended up having a huge water bill. To help with the costs (since we don't have an overflowing bank account) we decided to start a farm and grow cucumbers. The things are growing like crazy. There were 4 rows a couple hundred hards long. They have to pick them 3 times a week. Today we ended up picking around 400 Lbs of the things. Yikes!!! They actually taste better than the imported US ones. Anyway, enjoy the pics!!
